We are seeking applications from scholars and academics to join the Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) for a new book series Working-Class Studies: Scholarship, Voices, and Social Justice.

Ran jointly between the Working-Class Studies Association (WCSA) and Emerald Publishing, this exciting new interdisciplinary series will provide an international forum for innovative and impactful scholarship that advances understanding of working-class lives, cultures, histories, politics, labour, education, activism, and social justice. Grounded in core social science disciplines across sociology, criminology, education, politics, social policy and related fields, the series aims to publish rigorous, accessible, and socially engaged research that centres working-class voices while fostering dialogue across disciplines, sectors, and global contexts.

About the series

The series will showcase cutting-edge research and scholarship exploring working-class experiences and inequalities across a range of disciplines. Proposed themes include:

• Foundations and evolving directions in Working-Class Studies
• Working-class cultures, identities, and lived experience
• Work, labour, and economic justice
• Working-class media, journalism, and representation
• Community, activism, and social justice

Role of the Editorial Advisory Board

Editorial Advisory Board members will play an important role in shaping the strategic direction and reputation of the series. Responsibilities may include:

• Advising on the development and future direction of the series.
• Promoting the series within relevant scholarly and professional networks.
• Identifying emerging areas of research and potential authors.
• Supporting the commissioning of new proposals.
• Reviewing proposals and manuscripts within their areas of expertise.
• Helping to strengthen the international reach and interdisciplinary profile of the series.

The anticipated commitment is modest and designed to fit alongside existing academic responsibilities.

Eligibility

We are particularly keen to appoint a board that reflects:

• Disciplinary diversity – reflecting the breadth of the series (e.g., Sociology, Criminology, Education, Politics, Social Policy and related interdisciplinary fields).
• Geographical diversity – including representation from different regions and national contexts.
• Diversity of perspectives and lived experiences – relevant to working-class studies.
• Career-stage diversity – including both established leaders in the field and early-career academics.

Previous experience of book publishing, whether as an author, editor, series editor, or editorial board member, is highly desirable. While this is not an essential requirement, we anticipate that many members of the Editorial Advisory Board will bring experience of scholarly book publishing.

We particularly welcome applications from scholars whose work advances international, interdisciplinary, and intersectional understandings of working-class life, experience, and social justice. We encourage expressions of interest from colleagues across all world regions and from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds.

Membership of the WCSA is desirable, but not essential.
