Getting There

LaGuardia Airport to SUNY Old Westbury: Campus is about 25 miles from LaGuardia, but this will be about an hour and 15 minute drive (longer during rush hour). Hotels are clustered around Jericho, which is only a 5 minute drive from campus.

  • There are various options to get from LaGuardia to Jericho. Taxi service is estimated to cost $110-$140 and to take 30 minutes. Bus-and-train options are much cheaper, but take longer (as much as two and a half hours).  Best mass transit option: The Q70 bus from LaGuardia to Woodside and 61st Street. Take the Long Island Railroad to the Hicksville Stop (on the Port Jefferson or Ronkonkoma Branches), and then a taxi or ride service to campus or hotel.  Public buses do go to the Campus gate, but it’s a mile in to the actual campus.
  • Uber lists its average price at $92, and 46 minutes to Jericho (price and time will vary by time of the day).
  • You can also rent a car at LaGuardia.

Kennedy Airport to SUNY Old Westbury: JFK is about 23 miles from campus, with an estimated drive time of a little more than one hour (if not during rush hour).

  • There are various options to get from Kennedy to Jericho. As above, taxi is estimated to cost $110-$140, and bus-and-train are much cheaper but take longer (a little more than an hour and a half).  For public/private transport: Take the AirTran from JFK airport to the Jamaica Long Island Railroad Station; a train from there to Hicksville station (on the Port Jefferson or Ronkonkoma Lines); and then taxi or ride share to campus or hotel. Public buses do go to the Campus gates, but it’s a mile in to the actual campus.
  • Uber lists its average price at $55, and 37 minutes to Jericho (price and time will vary by time of the day).
  • You can also rent a car at at Kennedy.

Driving: If you’re not too far away, driving may be the best option, as the campus is not within walking distance of restaurants, bars, motels, or the railroad.

Rail: Another option is to get yourself to Manhattan via rail, and then use the Long Island Railroad (LIRR), which leaves from both Penn Station and Grand Central Station.  Take the Port Jefferson or Ronkonkoma lines and get off at Hicksville Station, where you can get a bus, taxi, or Uber to get to campus or your motel.  (If in Brooklyn, you can leave from the Atlantic Terminal.)

Accommodations

Dorm rooms at the Woodlands Residential Hall will be available to reserve soon (we’ll share more information as it becomes available). Prices are $52 for a double room, $104 for a single room. More information on Woodlands, including pictures, can be found HERE.

There are numerous hotels, motels, and Air BnBs in Jericho and surrounding areas, but many are already sold out for the June 6-8 period.  If you are not up to staying in the dorm, we urge you to search for other accommodations as soon as possible.  Generally, if you can find something for less than $200 a night, you should grab it.

The Conference

The easiest way to enter the campus is the main entrance at Gate A from Route 107.

The conference will be held in the New Academic Building and the Campus Center, within easy walking distance of the Woodlands Residence Hall.

The Thursday evening gathering and meal, which is free for all registrants, will be at Café Dolce Vita in Jericho. On the restaurant’s site, click on the “495 N. Broadway” address, and it will provide a map to help you find the restaurant.  We will meet beginning at 6pm and eat about 7pm.

The SUNY Old Westbury campus map will also show you convenient parking areas if you have a car.
